Why do we love this wine?
Paddy Borthwick runs a winery and farm that’s all about family. His great-great grandfather was a pioneer in the British meat industry and the family eventually immigrated to New Zealand, purchasing Te Whanga Station. In 1996, Paddy and his dad Robin started planning the Borthwick Vineyard & Winery onsite – and it’s them we have to thank for this delicious pinot gris.
We LOVE all of their pinots - noir, of course and this gris - a bright, minerally drop full of fresh, white stone fruits and a touch of nuttiness. From Wairapara, or ‘glistening waters’ in Māori, this vino is just as refreshing as its geography suggests. It’s floral with lovely acid, but fairly full and fruity, so get those oysters ready people!
Part of our Women in Wine Collection
We are committed to ALWAYS having wines available that are made by women. In an industry that’s still dominated by men, we believe in celebrating the incredible work women are doing. Here’s to our Women in Wine!
Vineyard Manager: Lisa Hodson
Lisa’s been at Borthwick since 2000, and has become, as they fondly call her, the “mother guardian” of the vineyard. She’s integral to the quality of their wines, and owner and winemaker Paddy’s right hand lady.
