Julien Schaal is known for producing extremely fine Alsatian wines, as well as some from South Africa, with his wife Sophie. As a formidable team, they’re no strangers to hard work, having made cross-continental vino since their mid-twenties. The Rosacker is heralded as being one of the most famed Crus in the region, a certified organic site, dominated by limestone soils rich in calcium and magnesium (read: these vines are heavily influenced by mineral character). The spice on this wine is intriguing and the layers of complexity will have your drawn back to the glass at an alarming speed. Jancis Robinson recently said that Schaal's rieslings "are really something special", and we tip our hat to the great mind of Jancis for recognising talent and value such as they are in these wines. We've not seen these wines hit our shores for a couple of years, but you best believe that the excitement is palpable around the Vinomofo headquarters. For lovers of the textural and generous wines, there is so much to discover in this, all driven by taut minerality and lively acid.
