Why do we love this case?
We love it when the critics agree (and all of these wines have received top marks from the worlds best wine minds), but the real proof is in the broader crowd reception. Vivino allows us to gather the thoughts of the drinking many, rather than the critical few. And the consensus is well and truly in on this one: the people love it.
2x Z Wines Hedley Shiraz 2021
Red — Shiraz
Barossa Valley — Australia
We have a lot to say about this wine, but nothing will quite compare to getting it in your glass and going for the first sip. You know how they say less is more? We’re just going to say it simply: there’s nothing you won’t love here. Heavy extraction means you’ll get that deep purple colour and even deeper flavour. The oak isn’t the commanding element, but it has a presence that cannot be ignored. You will never go wrong with a glass of shiraz like this.
You’d pay $35 full price.

2x Pertaringa 'Belonging to the Hills' Shiraz 2021
Red — Shiraz
McLaren Vale — Australia
The Pertaringa name is no stranger to the Aussie household. The iconic Hardy family are to wine what vegemite is to toast: a perfect match. So, to land this beauty from the hands of Bec Hardy is monumental for us, and we couldn't be more pleased. This is McLaren Shiraz through and through, with densely packed dark chocolate and fresh roasted coffee exploding on the nose. The palate follows through just as true, layered with preserved plums, dark forest berries and a lick of vanillin softness. There's one word for this wine, and it's awesome.
You’d pay $60 full price.

2x Pirramimma Heritage Shiraz 2021
Red — Shiraz
McLaren Vale — Australia
If you don’t know by now, we think it’s time for you to loop yourself in. This Limited Edition shiraz comes from the best rows of their famous “War Horse” and “Ironstone” blocks. The vines are old and what they lack in quantity (yield), they make up for in superb quality. Full bodied, but balanced with pepper and spice, there are just so many layers to discover in this wine. Laden with luscious, ripe blackberries, earthy blackcurrants, mocha, hints of cedar and a dollop of liquorice, you’re in for a treat with this divine, velvety red.
You’d pay $50 full price.

2x Parous McLaren Vale Shiraz 2021
Red — Shiraz
McLaren Vale — Australia
We're embracing the return of Parous with open arms (and mouths). This mofo fave producer is bringing the party with the 2021 vintage, singing with Rhône-esque qualities, one bottle is not enough. Winemaker Matt Head hasn't held back with this beauty. The ultimate of McLaren Vale shiraz: dark, bold and velvety. Juicy black fruits and a gamey savoury edge meet chilli infused chocolate notes. This has serious breadth on the palate while remaining fresh enough to warrant another glass. It's not often you find such finessed wines at this price, and like all good things, there's not all that much to go around.
You’d pay $60 full price.

2x Pirathon Silver Shiraz 2018
Red — Shiraz
Barossa Valley — Australia
You’ll know this winery the second you get an eye on the bottles, and for good reason. This producer has been at the fore of producing those styles Aussies love from reds out of the valley. The dense fruit profile has been balanced by 18 months in a variety of American, French and Hungarian oak barrels. Dark fruits such as plums and blackberries step forward and there’s plenty of secondary notes such as cedar, pastille and chocolate. If Barossa shiraz is your jam (but not too jammy of course), then you can turn to this number to give you the happiness you seek.
You’d pay $32 full price.
