1x d'Arenberg Dead Arm Shiraz 2018
Red — Shiraz
McLaren Vale — Australia
The Maestro
Impossible to overstate the excellence on offer here. This is superb stuff. There is so much complexity and depth to the wine, something new is ready to reveal itself at every sip. Cassis and black cherry out of the gate. Some riper, richer plums and brambles mix with roasted vegetables and sweet spice. It's powerful but never overbearing, full and rich but precise and focused - everything is as it should be. A wine with genuine presence on the palate. Oomph that doesn't veer into being unctuous. The structure of the wine will ensure it is long lived; while drinking brilliantly now, this is a wine with a conservative two decades left in the tank.

2x Reschke Reserve Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2020
Red — Cabernet Sauvignon
Coonawarra — Australia
Smooth and rich Coonawarra cab? Say no more. We’re not going to talk to you like you don’t know what to expect, and instead we’re going to tell you why this wine is the next best thing. There’s everything you crave in the style: cocoa, minty, eucalypt mingling with blackcurrants aplenty. What’s that? Oh, in comes a smattering of smokey spice, a dollop of dark jammy fruits, and an emerging earthy tone that sets everything in its place.

1x Mitolo Jester Shiraz 2021

McLaren Vale — Australia
Boasting all the dark fleshy plums and blackberries you can poke a stick at, with subtle but lingering black olive and chocolate nuances long after your final gulp. With a lusciously smooth texture and lingering liveliness on the back palate, you're guaranteed quality quaffing through the next few years. There's a reason the jester has long been a favourite drop for mofos around Australia, and the stellar 2021 vintage is no exception.

2x Haselgrove Bella Vigna Shiraz 2020
Red — Shiraz
McLaren Vale — Australia
This producer has to be one of the most consistently excellent wineries in McLaren Vale. Many of their wines get scores in the high-90s year after year and we reckon this wine may have the same fate, so were happy to get in before the reviews. The flavour’s there and the points will come. This one is McLaren Vale to a tee with all the dark, ripe berries, chocolate and spice you could want. It’s full-bodied and absolutely delightful. Trust us, mofo, this stuff is awesome.

2x Ulithorne Familia Shiraz 2021
Red — Shiraz
McLaren Vale — Australia
McLaren Vale shiraz, yes, but lithe and vibrant. A more medium-bodied feel leaves room for the lively fruit flavours to sing, unshackled from big, beefy, old-school styles. Classic brambly goodness skates on a fresh sheet of acidity, with just enough grippy tannin to keep it grounded. Miraculously food-friendly, there’s all the ingredients here for an infamous dinner party red. The kind you and your mates are liable to enjoy a wee bit too much of an evening.
Three previous vintages of this wine garnered an applause-worthy 95 points from Mr. Halliday himself. We got in quick with the release of this vintage, but expect similar accolades to be awarded soon enough.
You’d pay $40 full price.

2x Schild Estate GSM 2019
Red — GSM
Barossa Valley — Australia
Sure, you might know Barossa shiraz, but the next best thing absolutely has to be the GSM blends from this mighty region. This one leans a little on the meatier side, which will happen when you go a little heavier handed than usual on the mataro in the blend. We're not mad about this one at all; it packs a serious punch, with ripe blackberries, blueberry pie, baking spices and tobacco leaf mingling beautifully in a smoothly textured palate.

2x Sunshine Creek Block X Cabernet Blend 2018
Red — Cabernet Blend
Yarra Valley — Australia
Smooth, satisfyingly robust and with dashes of dark fruit, this cab blend is true to its varietal namesake. Combining drinkability with versatility and the ability to be savoured alone or with a pretty big array of cuisine, it does the iconic Yarra proud. The Sunshine Creek crew pride themselves on working exclusively with grapes that thrive in the Valley’s cool climate and they keep the yield to a low or medium level to maintain a premium quality. And that fastidiousness pays off here.
