If ever there was a grape capable of magic, it’s pinot noir. Little wonder it’s key to many of the most expensive wines in the world. Luckily, there’s none of that pomposity here.

1x Ara Resolute Organic Pinot Noir 2020
Red — Pinot Noir
Marlborough — New Zealand
You can taste the rugged mountains and icy rivers, the rush of the landscape and the darkness of the pinot grapes that grow here. It’s a powerful pinot. Full of dark berries and herby, nutty earthines. That palate maturity is prevalent throughout. Mushroom, mocha, a bit of wet earth, smoke, and game. This is a seriously generous and complex wine. The juiciness is set against spindly tannin giving the wine wonderful texture and a well presented, long finish. This is winemaking magic, mofos.

1x Helen & Joey Alena Pinot Noir 2018
Red — Pinot Noir
Yarra Valley — Australia
From a producer we love, a varietal we adore, and a region with a global reputation - what's not to love? Nothing, as it turns out. The Elena pinot is excellent in every way. Red cherries and sappy rhubarb mix with spice, fennel, and pepper. The tannin structure is quite open stitch, making for a soft, luxurious mouthfeel. The acid feels brand new; plenty of freshness and pickup left in the tank. This is a 2018 (iconic Yarra Valley vintage, by the way) pinot with a way to go. Dig in, pinot loving mofos, this ones for you.

1x Rob Dolan Wines Pinot Noir 2023
Red — Pinot Noir
Victoria — Australia
You'll know Rob Dolan Wines for their reputation for excellence. They've been making some of the most iconic wines of the Yarra Valley and broader Victorian region for decades. This is, of course, no exception to that spirit of excellence; fresh red raspberries and pulpy cherry meat fine, slippery tannin structure. There is sappy acidity that frames the enduring finish. A brilliantly delivered wine from a master of their craft.

1x Bonne Fortune Pinot Noir 2020
Red — Pinot Noir
France — France
Organic French pinot noir for under $20 a bottle? Hell yeah! If you are looking for a mid-week, light on its feet, bright and full-of-fruit wine - this is the one for you. From high altitude organic vineyards and a mix of soils, this one is pure pinot goodness - fresh from the 2020 vintage, onto a ship and into your mouth! Only the tiniest smidge of oak was used in the winemaking process, so the fruit is the star - ripe strawberries, puckering red currants and a touch of spice. Not a wine to overthink, but a wine to simply enjoy.

1x Mt Bera Pinot Noir 2021
Red — Pinot Noir
Adelaide Hills — Australia
Ken Gargett once said of Mt Bera's pinot that it was "amongst the best on the mainland", which is a very high praise for this humble Adelaide Hills producer. Delightfully earthy, but backed up by lifted raspberry and red cherry notes, we would absolutely have to agree that this wine offers a great deal of value in every sip.

1x Matahiwi Estate Holly Pinot Noir 2020
Red — Pinot Noir
Wairarapa — New Zealand
Matahiwi’s ‘Holly’ range continues to grow in popularity throughout the nation, and for good reason. With a swath of rich, dark forest fruits and an aromatic lift of soft cooking spices, this is a supercharged pinot for those of you after a richer, more robust style. Ready to knock back in its youth thanks to a generous fruit profile, the wine has had a major whack of French oak prior to bottling, a good 10 months and 35% new. Couple that with a core of balanced, driving acidity and you can feel very confident to lay this down for a good 5-7 years and let those ever intriguing secondary and tertiary characteristics shine through.
You’d pay $50 full price.
