If ever there was a grape capable of magic, it’s pinot noir. Little wonder it’s key to many of the most expensive wines in the world. Luckily, there’s none of that pomposity here.

1x Nga Waka Three Paddles Pinot Noir 2020
Red — Pinot Noir
Martinborough — New Zealand
Nga Waka (pronounced ‘Na Waka’) was established in 1988 by a small wine-growing family and continues today with the same ethos; to make excellent quality pinot noir. Based in the ‘south of the north’ island in NZ’s famous ‘grand cru’ region of Martinborough, this wine is an excellent example of what we know and love about the area. Pinot from these parts doesn’t shy away from a bit of density and savouriness with dark fruits, spice and tannin. However, don’t expect it to be a super delicate pinot, but a much more profound, round and flavourful wine. Ridiculous value here.

1x Peos Estate Four Kings Pinot Noir 2022
Red — Pinot Noir
Manjimup — Australia
Deeply coloured and rich. This is pinot noir with the right amount of robustness to frame the acid - just the way we like it. Deep plummy goodness at the core with bright blue and red berries on show. Some sweet spice and smokey char accent the fruit which is centre stage. They have created a pinot for everyone here; still lithe and supple with the palate weight to keep the shiraz and gsm crowd coming back for more. Complexity, plushness, and balance - what more could you possible ask for?

1x Riversdale Estate Pinot Noir 2021
Red — Pinot Noir
Tasmania — Australia
This is no muckin' about pinot - ethereal and light but not lacking in depth and oomph. It’s packed full of elegant raspberry, strawberry and thyme aromatics that seem to evolve right there in the glass. The palate is marked by black cherry, oregano, thyme and cured meats. There’s brightness, a savoury undertone and enough acid to carry the finish. Absolutely delicious pinot good to go right now but with a bit of tie left in the tank, especially if you want to see that herbal, savoury finesse develop further.
You’d pay $48 full price.

1x Seville Hill Estate Pinot Noir 2019
Red — Pinot Noir
Yarra Valley — Australia
Gun to my head, Seville Hill Estate is one of my favourite Yarra Valley producers. The wines are crafted so skilfully that they last seemingly forever. Yarra Valley pinot noir is rare enough in and of itself... Yarra Valley pinot that knocks our socks off, well that's another story all together. This has broad, juicy berries right at the fore and the plushness flows right through. There is crushed cranberries, tart red cherries, sappy raspberries, and so much more; the fruit profile evolves and shifts shape in the glass. Mushroom umami and earthy depth chime in late adding another facet to the already complex and endless intriguing palate. This is, above all else, completely charming pinot - I cannot get enough of it.

1x Montperdu Reserve Pinot Noir 2021
Red — Pinot Noir
France — France
The wines of the Languedoc-Rousillon are often over looked outside of the region, which only means there is excellent value to be found. This speaks to all the rusticity of the place but leaves the overly earthy-barnyard at the (barn) door. At once rustic and ethereal, this is a beautifully finessed and ethereal Pays Doc Pinot - Pete Sherwood, Wine Buyer
That’s right, French pinot that doesn’t break the bank. It might seem like it’s too good to be true, but we can verify that this is all class and style. Made by the incredible team at Terres Fidèles in Southern France, where the mix of sunshine and ocean breezes makes fresh, fruit-driven pinot that you won’t want to put down. If getting fancy with the French stuff is your thing, this is sure to impress a crowd.

1x Elysian Springs Silent Waters Pinot Noir 2022
Red — Pinot Noir
Adelaide Hills — Australia
This is a clever wine, in a lot of ways. It's pretty hard to find great pinot noir at the moment. The last few vintages have been tough, and getting maximum flavour with a minimal pricetag is a near impossible task. One clever way to build texture and complexity in pinot noir is to partially ferment the whole berry clusters. The producer of this wine employed this method with 30% of the fruit before letting the wine age in 50% new French oak. What’s in the bottle is elegant, yet concentrated. Fruit is expressed as cherries, plums and strawberries and there are secondary notes of spice and earth. You’ll feel semi-serious drinking this lovely pinot, even if it is a Tuesday night in your PJs.
You’d pay $35 full price.
