Why do we love this case?
If ever there was a grape capable of magic, it’s pinot noir. Little wonder it’s key to many of the most expensive wines in the world. Luckily, there’s none of that pomposity here. Here’s a mix covering some of the very best regions in the world. From perfumed and pretty to dark and sexy, there’s something for every occasion and every food pairing.
Every case contains ONE bottle of the following:
1x Carlei Green Vineyards Cuvée Stephen Thomson Pinot Noir 2019
Red — Pinot Noir
Yarra Valley — Australia
This well-known Victorian producer sources three different pinot clones from a little vineyard in the Yarra, whole-berry fermenting them separately. The batches are then aged in a mix of old and new French oak for a year before a final blending. The final product is opulent on the nose with ripe strawberries and cherries paired with truffle and forest floor. The velvety palate carries its acid well and hints at even greater developments after a few years of age, when more earthy characteristics will peek through.
You’d pay $59 full price.

Tasting Notes
1x Sea Glass Pinot Noir 2019
Red — Pinot Noir
Mornington Peninsula — Australia
This is one of the most exciting Mornington pinots we’ve had at the ‘fo. The fruit and winemaking is just THAT good.
It really is a stunning wine: quite Burgundian in style - a touch lighter, not quite as plush as many New World examples, and with bags of vibrant acidity that guarantees good ageing. But the flavour there is unmistakably Mornington. We’re talking redcurrants and cranberry, with a spicy edge and a trademark salinity that speaks of a region with the sea on three sides. The delicate fruit sweetness hints of grenadine cordial, but any fruit juice notions are reigned in immediately by impressively powdery tannin and a speckling of spice. This wine is built to age and will do so extraordinarily well. Serious pinot for lovers of wine as an art form as much as simply good drinking.
You’d pay $50 full price.

1x Te Pa Signature Series Pinot Noir 2020
Red — Pinot Noir
Marlborough — New Zealand
You could be forgiven for thinking Marlborough is all about savvy b, but chat to the locals and they can’t stop carrying on about pinot noir (and chardy for that matter, but that’s a tipple for another day). The Te Pa Signature pinot has all the classic elegance and poise coupled with intensity and focus, but its the fruit that’s knocking our socks off. Brimming with pulpy dark red cherry and winter strawberry, the fruit persists from start to finish. A little bit of oak nuance and some fine grain tannin gives the wine shape and structure. There’s plushness and generosity set against a tart, sappy backdrop. This is a wine in perfect balance showing its full potential.
You’d pay $55 full price.

1x Terra Verde Pinot Noir 2017
Red — Pinot Noir
Tasmania — Australia
We can’t get enough of Tassie pinot (or chardy, or riesling, or anything really.) While some pinot can be a little thin, this is full and punchy. Cherry and strawberry lead the wine - but there is a noticeable amount of development from the little bit of age. Wet earth, spice, mushroom, some waxy prosciutto, and a little whiff of beetroot and rhubarb. There’s a lot going on here; a complex aromatic profile draped across well deployed oak influence, fruit weight and juicy, sappy acidity.
You’d pay $45 full price.

1x Riversdale Estate Scorpio Pinot Noir 2022
Red — Pinot Noir
Tasmania — Australia
We can’t get enough of pinot noir from the Apple Isle - it’s got freshness, complexity, and genuine prettiness. This is Tassie to a tee - elegance with a bit of earthiness behind the cherry and strawberry fruit profile. Up front you can taste some bramble drawn from partial whole bunch pressing, but that soon gives way to the silky palate and gently spiced finish. We might have our hooks in a good share of this wine, but with pinot flying off the shelf like never before, don’t expect it to stick around for long.
You’d pay $40 full price.

1x Lighthouse Pinot Noir 2020
Red — Pinot Noir
Waipara Valley — New Zealand
‘From the edge of a country on the edge of the earth’ is their tagline, and here is a beacon to stop you in your wine-loving tracks and make you look twice. From vines on the edge of the small island in the South Pacific, silhouetted by the Southern Alps, comes wine on the cutting edge. And if I was a lighthouse keeper, I’d want something good in my glass on dark and stormy nights, so lucky these guys have come to the rescue.
Kiwi pinot at this price is worth stopping for alone. With a solid score from Wine Orbit and a package this good, send a message in a bottle home to the folks. With all the spiced dark cherry and slightly herbal earthiness you might look for, along with silkiness and approachability, you’ll be thankful you saw the light.
You’d pay $30 full price.
