2x Matahiwi Estate Reserve Pinot Noir 2021
Red — Pinot Noir
Wairarapa — New Zealand
Pinot is a really tough grape to handle at the best of times, let alone when on a budget. Every now and then, though, you do find some gems. This is one of those. Made by the team at Matahiwi, who are known to over-deliver, this pinot does, and then some! Light and bright, it ticks the fruit, complexity and pinosity boxes with a flourish. A firm favourite of our customers and staff, excitement levels get pretty high when Matahiwi enters the building.

2x Ara Resolute Organic Pinot Noir 2020
Red — Pinot Noir
Marlborough — New Zealand
You can taste the rugged mountains and icy rivers, the rush of the landscape and the darkness of the pinot grapes that grow here. It’s a powerful pinot. Full of dark berries and herby, nutty earthines. That palate maturity is prevalent throughout. Mushroom, mocha, a bit of wet earth, smoke, and game. This is a seriously generous and complex wine. The juiciness is set against spindly tannin giving the wine wonderful texture and a well presented, long finish. This is winemaking magic, mofos.

2x Pepper Tree Wines Block C6 Pinot Noir 2021
Red — Pinot Noir
Orange — Australia
Peppy pinot from a Halliday favourite? Yes please. This is all it sets out to be, and much more. This is every bit as joyous as this variety gets. Pinot noir is becoming somewhat of a unicorn these days. And if we’re talking about an already hard-to-get wine out of a hard-to-get region, then it’s like finding a unicorn with a platinum horn. Sometimes days at the tasting bench are exhausting, but wines like these breathe energy into what can be a fruitless (pun intended) task. This is bright and peppy pinot, mingling sour cherry and cola with a dose of well-handled spice along the lines of clove and cinnamon. It reminds me of a summer's day sipping on spritzes in the sunshine, and it's every bit as enjoyable.

2x Rob Dolan Wines Pinot Noir 2023
Red — Pinot Noir
Victoria — Australia
You'll know Rob Dolan Wines for their reputation for excellence. They've been making some of the most iconic wines of the Yarra Valley and broader Victorian region for decades. This is, of course, no exception to that spirit of excellence; fresh red raspberries and pulpy cherry meat fine, slippery tannin structure. There is sappy acidity that frames the enduring finish. A brilliantly delivered wine from a master of their craft.

2x Montperdu Reserve Pinot Noir 2021
Red — Pinot Noir
France — France
The wines of the Languedoc-Rousillon are often over looked outside of the region, which only means there is excellent value to be found. This speaks to all the rusticity of the place but leaves the overly earthy-barnyard at the (barn) door. At once rustic and ethereal, this is a beautifully finessed and ethereal Pays Doc Pinot - Pete Sherwood, Wine Buyer
That’s right, French pinot that doesn’t break the bank. It might seem like it’s too good to be true, but we can verify that this is all class and style. Made by the incredible team at Terres Fidèles in Southern France, where the mix of sunshine and ocean breezes makes fresh, fruit-driven pinot that you won’t want to put down. If getting fancy with the French stuff is your thing, this is sure to impress a crowd.

2x Elysian Springs Silent Waters Pinot Noir 2022
Red — Pinot Noir
Adelaide Hills — Australia
This is a clever wine, in a lot of ways. It's pretty hard to find great pinot noir at the moment. The last few vintages have been tough, and getting maximum flavour with a minimal pricetag is a near impossible task. One clever way to build texture and complexity in pinot noir is to partially ferment the whole berry clusters. The producer of this wine employed this method with 30% of the fruit before letting the wine age in 50% new French oak. What’s in the bottle is elegant, yet concentrated. Fruit is expressed as cherries, plums and strawberries and there are secondary notes of spice and earth. You’ll feel semi-serious drinking this lovely pinot, even if it is a Tuesday night in your PJs.
