Why do we love this case?

The Lucky Dip Case is back! The first time we did this, we broke the internet. This time we’ve bubble-wrapped the servers because they’re in for another beating.

Every case contains the same eleven wicked wines, including some of our absolute faves here at the ‘fo. More info on them below, and they’re all good things. All mofo standard - i.e. nothing we haven’t enjoyed ourselves.

Then there’s the added excitement of seeing which one of these world-beater wines you will receive as your twelfth.

The twelfth wine is the wildcard and could be any one of these:

An iconic Penfolds Grange 2018 worth $1000 - (1 in 100 chance)

Chateau Yaldara 1847 Grand Pappy's Shiraz 2020 worth $320 - (1 in 10 chance)

Sorby Adams Reverend Canon Shiraz 2020 - worth $75, - (1 in 25 chance)

Lou Miranda Estate Golden Lion Shiraz 2020 - worth $50 - (at a minimum!)

Each box contains one of these epic wines. The odds vary per wine, but each one is a centrepiece wine, worthy of some truly special occasions.

We should say up front: there are no returns on this - click here for case terms and conditions. As it’s a Lucky Dip, it would be unfair to other mofos running in the draw.

The easiest way to guarantee to get a bottle of Grange is to go out and buy one for yourself. If you, like me, don’t have $1000 handy, this is definitely your best (and cheapest) option! Heard enough already? Pop that case in the cart and cross your fingers and toes! Otherwise, read on for a bit more info on all those lovely wines:

Included in this case:

2x Hollick Red Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon 2020

Red — Cabernet Sauvignon

Coonawarra — Australia

Estate fruit from the famed Hollick vineyards in Coonawarra, this is cab sauv like Aussies know and love. Certainly, a little bit of age behind this number has helped to fill out the mid palate, making it rich and dense with threads of fennel and mint throughout. It's very hard not to enjoy this wine- and we're speaking from experience.

2x Woodstock Deep Sands Shiraz 2021

Red — Shiraz

McLaren Vale — Australia

The clue is in the name with this one - deeps sands allow for vine roots to extend down through layers of earth while enjoying relative ease in their environment. The result is complexity through varied soil types and depths, and fullness/richness as the grapes are allowed a long, healthy ripening period. This is beautifully blue fruited and full of pillowy tannins that excite the palate. A delightful drinking experience from go to whoa.

Red — GSM

Barossa Valley — Australia

We love how each variety plays the perfect role in this blend - from the savoury feel of the grenache, to the flesh and deeper flavours of the mataro, to the structure that shiraz delivers to bring it all home. There's ample amount to love about this drop, but we're really applauding it for its all-round friendliness. Three cheers to GSM, any night of the week.

Penfolds Grange Shiraz 2018

South Australia

100pts Andrew Caillard MW | 100pts Tony Love | 100pts James Suckling | 100pts Lisa Perrotti-Brown | 100pts Ken Garget

“A robust Grange from a lauded vintage, this wields sheer power with such compelling prowess. Uncompromising Grange. There are rich blackberries and plums on offer, together with brazen oak and abundant notes of blackcurrants, black cherries, charcoal, cola and hard brown spices. So fleshy and intense. Dark-chocolate and cocoa-powder aromas and flavors here, too. The tannins are polished and long, extruding deep into the finish and holding endlessly. Dark chocolate, black cherry, dark plum and more. Impressive. Brazen. One of the great Granges that will drink magnificently for decades to come.” - James Suckling

“Deep colour. Beautiful and classic with intense blackberry, blackcurrant dark chocolate espresso aromas and wax polish, roasted chestnut, malt notes. Superbly concentrated wine with deep set inky blackberry, blackcurrant, dark plum, dark chocolate mocha flavours, fine chocolaty/ velvety tannins, underlying espresso, malt, oak notes and hints of aniseed. Finishes chocolaty firm with superbly integrated acidity and mineral length. A glorious year for Grange. This will last 50 years at least. Wonderful. One of the greatest vintages of all time highlighting a superb growing season, marvellous vineyard management, the fidelity of the Penfolds housemaking style and generations of imagination and effort. 97% Shiraz, 3% Cabernet Sauvignon. Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale and Clare Valley. 18 months maturation in 100% new American oak hogsheads. Drink 2030-2060+” - Andrew caillard

“A much-awaited vintage that fulfils expectations and then some. It has all the elements that you come to expect but still you have to sit back and marvel that so much can be going on inside one wine. Firstly, it simply ain’t Grange unless it is wearing its traditional American oak coat, and this iteration isn’t going to shy away from that. But perhaps it is the generosity across the board of South Australia’s 2018 vintage that gathers in 18 months of barrel maturation, puts shape to its broad-shouldered dark fruits, turns oak notes into chocolate and sarsaparilla characters on one side of the brain and beef and mushroom braise in the other. All in all, it is a fabulous balance of inputs: big fruit, classically prominent oak, all its structural tannins and acidity fitting cleverly into one exceptionally complex and engaging being. Palate length is indefinite, perhaps suggesting similar cellaring potential well into the second half of the 21st century. Magnificent.” Ken Garget, Wine Pilot

Wild Card Wine #2

Chateau Yaldara 1847 Grand Pappy's Shiraz 2020

Barossa Valley, SA

96pts Wine Orbit | 4.3 Vivino | Five Stars Wine Orbit

We all know the Barossa, and likely this icon of a wine, but do we really know it’s history? Introducing to you pioneers of this famed region, with this winery established over 150 years ago. They show no mercy when it comes to staying true to the region: meaty, bold, and focused reds with a whole lot of character. You know what we’re talking about: eye-catching hues of purple, soft and silky tannins, and more plummy goodness than you can poke a stick at. There’s cherry and rhubarb sure, but we’re talking unapologetic notes of chocolate, toasty oak and handfuls of freshly cracked pepper. It’s a showstopper, and built to impress even the most discerning of critics.

YOU’D PAY $320 full price.

Sorby Adams Reverend Canon Shiraz 2020

Barossa Valley, SA

96pts Ray Jordan | 95pts Wine Orbit | 94pts Ken Gargett | 4.0 Vivino (All Vintages)| Top Wineries 2022 The Real Review | Five Stars Wine Orbit | Old Vine | Single Vineyard

This is the style of shiraz that made the world take notice of this ripper region. Simon 'Sorby' Adams is the master craftsman behind this wine (can you say, ex-head winemaker at Yalumba?), so it's no surprise that this is a wine of seriously high calibre. Rich expressions of blackberry, plum, chocolate, spices and cedar from the use of 30% new French oak. After four years cellaring time, it’s drinking beautifully now, but has another decade of prime left in it for those patient types.

YOU’D PAY $75 full price.

Wild Card Wine #4

Lou Miranda Estate Golden Lion Shiraz 2020

Barossa Valley, SA

Mofo Fave | Women in Wine

Power and other-worldly levels of deliciousness. This is one robust shiraz. In the glass, the colour is a deep crimson red and there’s lifted aromas of plum, pepper, vanilla and dark chocolate. The palate is full and generous with dark fruits, interwoven spice and savoury tannins. With Angela Miranda at the helm of the winemaking, this is one well made wine. There's a good dose of American oak in the ageing regime on this, adding a touch of coconut and further vanilla to the wine. It’s ready to go with a big ole’ steak right now or will happily nap in your cellar for 15 years. This big boy is here for you now and in the future.

YOU’D PAY $50 full price.
