Why do we love this case?
We love a vertical case, three examples of the exact same wine from three different vintages. It really allows you to see the effect that climate, conditions and bottle age impart on a wine and this case is no exception. From one of the Yarra's true gems, the fruit was taken from vines dating back as far as 1976. The result is dense, concentrated wines with an ability to age longer than many other pinots from the Yarra. Have fun debating/arguing with your friends and loved ones about which is the better vintage, that's what we've been doing.
2x Punch Lance's Vineyard Pinot Noir 2016
Red — Pinot Noir
Yarra Valley — Australia
Punch is the new generation of the original Diamond Creek Wines, who established themselves (and their site in St Andrews) as one of the go-tos for Yarra Valley pinot in the mid-70s. The new generation is winemaker James Lance, and his Punch wines are all from the original site, made with the utmost attention to detail.
This has immediate richness and serious exuberance. Black cherry, ripe strawberry, subtle earthen spice and smoky-savoury character to lift it above the masses of fragrant pinots out there. The palate is intense and textural with all the right amounts of sweetness, sourness and char. Will definitely appeal to a cross-section of pinot drinkers for its fragrance and depths, without being too over the top. It’s a wine of depth, complexity and class.

2x Punch Wines Lance's Vineyard Pinot Noir 2018
Red — Pinot Noir
Yarra Valley — Australia
The 2018 vintage brought somewhat warm conditions, for the Yarra at least, and the result is soft yet generous pinot noir with wonderfully crisp acidity and enduring fruit. Think ripe cherries and fresh strawberries with an underlying earthiness and lingering velvety tannins. This has Yarra Valley pinot written all over it and with 6 years under its belt, this little number is raring and ready to go.

2x Punch Wines Lance's Vineyard Pinot Noir 2019
Red — Pinot Noir
Yarra Valley — Australia
A dark and brooding expression of the Yarra. With fruit from vines dating back to 1976, 10% whole bunches and 8 months in 35% new oak, the crew at Punch have pulled out all the stops here. Powerful and concentrated black and red fruit with a distinctive lick of oak, velvety tannins and a beautiful, somewhat spicy, finish. A bit of a serious wine and one that will definitely go the distance if you're inclined to age your pinots. Seriously good stuff.
