Why do we love this case?
We’re not joking when we say these wines are seductive, sure to captivate their beholders and hold them in an embrace of dark berry fruits and often rustic tannins. Walk on the wild side with us ‘mofo, and let us take you on an adventure from the Langhe to Tuscany.
1x Lornano Supertuscan Commendator Enrico 2018
Red — Cabernet Blend
Italy — Italy
This is beyond Super Tuscan. This feels like Ultra Tuscan. A wine of such immeasurable complexity, power and dynamism that we’ve heard whispers it’s going to star in a Marvel movie all of its own. A wine with such long-term potential that, rumour has it, cellars themselves give in to time before it does. Immediately cutting-edge, but imbued with the feel of timeless tradition. This wine is also a favourite amongst our mofo’s, and even though we promise ourselves that we’ll save a bottle for later- we never do. Guess it’s time to stock up!

1x Luciano Arduini Valpolicella Ripasso Classico Superiore 2020
Red — Red Blend
Veneto — Italy
A blend of native Italian varieties, corvina (60%), corvinone (20%) and rondinella (20%), this Italian beauty is no shrinking violet. On the contrary, it’s big, powerful and robust. Translated, ripasso means to ‘re-pass’, or ‘to go over again’. This refers to the traditional method of putting the resulting wine on Amarone grape skins for 15 days to extract extra colour and tannins. It certainly pumps up the performance, like adding a supercharger to a Ferrari. So you better buckle up!
The oak routine takes on an international flavour, with a third each of French, US and Slavonian oak from Croatia all lending an equal hand. There’s a lot going on here - with layers of fruit cake and spice, lifting with rich plum compote. That extra time on skins delivers plenty of grip on the palate, with brambly herbal notes lingering on the finish. Yep - it’s a supercharged Ferrari alright - but one that’s been tamed for the dinner table.

1x Lornano Chianti Classico DOCG 2019
Red — Sangiovese
Tuscany — Italy
It’s back for another ripper vintage! Chianti for the New World wine-lover. Bold and supple, with heaps of saucy black cherry action. The acid’s there; that common theme in pretty much all Italians that guarantees food-friendliness. Dusty cypress-lined gravel path tannins give just the right hint of the rustic, without taking away from the class and poise of what is a cracking vino. It already has one 97 point review and I’m sure there’s a few more accolades on the way.

1x La Bollina Josué Rosso Terre Siciliane IGP 2019
Red — Red Blend
Sicily — Italy
What’s that? Luca Maroni, Italy’s greatest wine critic, has given this red a staggering 99 points? Just to be clear, his scale goes up to 99. This is the ceiling, the pinnacle, sheer perfection. And just to put a bow on it, Vivino places this in the top 2% of all wines worldwide. Whoa!
This wine is a blend of Sicilian native nero d’avola, and the French merlot. The combo produces a powerful blend of plush, ripe berries and structure, with future to age for many years. It shows balance, in spite of the power, with great freshness and acidity giving lift and relief from the densely concentrated body. It’s a crossover hit really - you get the exotic nero and the familiar merlot. An absolute delight that won’t last long.

1x Savian Refosco dal Peduncolo 2022
Red — Other Red
Friuli-Venezia Giulia — Italy
This is our third vintage of organic producer Savian’s refosco dal peduncolo. This variety native to Veneto has remained relatively obscure here in Australia, but no longer. For lovers of pinot noir and nebbiolo, this is definitely one to know. The wine is light in body, floral on the nose with violet and iris, and follows through with plum, sour cherry, blackberry, flintiness and undergrowth on the palate. The tannins are soft and round, and a fresh minerality drives through to the finish. This is under-the-radar deliciousness here that will certainly impress fans of lighter reds.

1x Fabrizio Vella Rosso 2020
Red — Nero d'Avola
Sicily — Italy
Nero d’Avola is a Sicilian native grape that’s often touted as the ‘next big thing’ in Australia. That’s not purely hype; it actually makes a lot of sense. Sicily is a hot, dry, dusty sort of a place, and far closer to Australia in terms of climate than many other wine regions. The wine itself makes another great case for it doing well over here. It’s fresh and vibrant, dripping with juicy blackberries and tart raspberries, and backed up with gorgeous spiciness that gives the perfect amount of seasoning. There’s tannin, but it’s not a tannic wine; it just provides a minimal frame to a delicious picture. It’s as charming as that Mediterranean lifestyle you get to live out while you drink it.
