Why do we love this case?
Australia's love affair with shiraz swings on a pendulum between Barossa and McLaren Vale - for me, though, my heart is truly in the Vale. The wines have beautiful blue fruit and dense wild berry notes that really set it alight. They typify freshness without sacrificing varietal boldness or power. These are six of the best, right from the heart of Aussie shiraz country.

The Maestro
Impossible to overstate the excellence on offer here. This is superb stuff. There is so much complexity and depth to the wine, something new is ready to reveal itself at every sip. Cassis and black cherry out of the gate. Some riper, richer plums and brambles mix with roasted vegetables and sweet spice. It's powerful but never overbearing, full and rich but precise and focused - everything is as it should be. A wine with genuine presence on the palate. Oomph that doesn't veer into being unctuous. The structure of the wine will ensure it is long lived; while drinking brilliantly now, this is a wine with a conservative two decades left in the tank.

1x Clarendon Hills Moritz Shiraz 2013
Red — Shiraz
McLaren Vale — Australia
What is immediately impressive here is the way the fruit still sits right at the fore. It's a summer berry mix with blueberry and plum leading the way - classic McLaren Vale in every way. Lifted and punchy acidity gives the wine youthful zeal and a lot of promise for the future still. There's a little bit of a savoury green, grassy note that provides an all important to the freshness of the fruit profile. Powerful to be sure – it has a rich, dense core. There's menthol and eucalypt on the periphery. This is a really special wine and a study in what aged wine can and should look like. If ever I needed to convert someone to the nuance, intricacy, and sheer other-worldly enjoyment of aged reds, this is what I would reach for.

Year in, year out, this wine knocks our socks off. It could be McLaren Vale etching it's way further and further into our hearts. It could be the fastidious and integrated usage of oak barrels. It could be because we just flat out just love Shiraz. Or, we could love it because you folks love it. And we love being able to share this wine with YOU!

1x Ulithorne Frux Frugis Shiraz 2018
Red — Shiraz
McLaren Vale — Australia
Welcome to this producer’s flagship wine. All parents say they don’t have a favourite child, but we’re pretty sure this would be the one for our star McLaren Vale producer. Picking the premium, low-yielding fruit from their vineyards, they’ve succeeded in creating a magnificently concentrated wine. There’s some parcels of fruit that go into American oak, and some in French. Some new and some old. It hits all the notes and comes together in a symphony of black and blue fruits. C’mon, those scores from the experts really speak for themselves on this one. But if we were to give you a short review from our team, it’d be this: don’t pass on the opportunity to get this in your glass.

Seriously, whenever this wine is open on the tasting bench it seems to attract more than one mofo in the office as they try their chances at a glass. On the palate, it's a flavour circus, with blackberries, plums, and a dash of spice performing a daredevil act, while the oak provides the background music. This wine knows how to keep the party going with a smooth, velvety finish that leaves you wanting an encore. If you're looking for a wine that's as entertaining as it is delicious, this is your ticket.
