What is a 5 Red Star winery you ask?
Well... It’s a Halliday rating for a winery that has consistently produced wines of “exemplary quality and typicity”. To have a 5 RED star rating the winery has to have held a 5 Star rating for a minimum of 4 years! - Basically you know these folk aren’t messing about!
2x Pepper Tree Limited Release 'Block 7' Cabernet Sauvignon 2015
Red — Cabernet Sauvignon
Wrattonbully — Australia
Did we hear you call for aged cabernet? We don’t blame you, it’s the stuff of *insert god here* when you get it, and we’re not even talking about the really good stuff. Our producers in Wrattonbully do it best when it comes to cab, benefiting from the rich limestone and terra-rosa soils that neighbouring Coonawarra boasts. Come to expect lashings of blackcurrant and dark cherries, interlaced with fine grained tannins and a persistent finish. Beautiful, structured, elegant, and worth the wait.

2x Amelia Park Ironstone Shiraz 2022
Red — Shiraz
Frankland River — Australia
This wine is, without doubt, one of the most popular we’ve ever seen at Vinomofo. How popular is popular, you ask? Well, thirsty mofos took over 30,000 bottles of a previous vintage straight out of our hands. Yup. We know it’s a great wine deal but when our mofo members are this unanimous in their desire for this drop; well it’s simply cause for one big shiraz gluggin’ celebration.
Full bodied and silky smooth with lashings of plums and earthy spice; if you’re quaffing this Frankland River gem on a week night, know you’re in good company alongside many a mofo. With one fist in the air (and the other holding a glass of this wine) we salute you!
You’d pay $33 full price.

2x Haselgrove Bella Vigna Shiraz 2020
Red — Shiraz
McLaren Vale — Australia
This producer has to be one of the most consistently excellent wineries in McLaren Vale. Many of their wines get scores in the high-90s year after year and we reckon this wine may have the same fate, so were happy to get in before the reviews. The flavour’s there and the points will come. This one is McLaren Vale to a tee with all the dark, ripe berries, chocolate and spice you could want. It’s full-bodied and absolutely delightful. Trust us, mofo, this stuff is awesome.
You’d pay $30 full price.

2x Z Wines [RUSTICA] Grenache 2022
Red — Grenache
Barossa Valley — Australia
Barossa grenache is a beauty of thing, and certainly quite the chameleon. Of course, Barossa has some of the world's oldest vines of this variety, and the depth shows in a lot of bottles you'll pick up from the region. Z Wines are lucky to have access to some legacy grenache vines, and their example in the Rustica shows depth and power that grenache is more than capable of showing. Ripe black cherry, plum, aniseed and spice are abundantly present, and linger on the palate long after the wine has left your mouth. This is what grenache is all about, and will have you coming back for more.
You’d pay $25 full price.

2x Penley Estate Shiraz 2021
Red — Shiraz
Coonawarra — Australia
We all know that this winery, one of Coonawarra’s finest, make great cabernet under their Estate Range. It’s the kind of red you want on the wine rack all year round because it over-delivers and gets better and better. Can the same be said for their shiraz? We think even more so, but you’ll have to try the wine and decide for yourself. Expect a firm palate with soft tannins, nestled in a medium-body of fruit and spice. There’s dark plums, bright cherries and spicy cloves, drinking well now and only getting better.
You’d pay $25 full price.

Hello amazing value South Aussie shiraz! If you are a shiraz lover, keen on the generosity and flavour-power of the South Australian style... keep reading. This wine is from one of the leading (warmer) regions and a producer who really knows what they are doing in the vineyard and winery. It’s classic full-bodied shiraz with fruit aplenty - rich plums, dark cherries and fresh dates. The nose is full of spice, which continues on the palate, which is plush and full of soft smooth tannins.
