Why do we love this case?

No need to activate that ‘fight or flight’ instinct though, just some glassware and a few mates.

Included in this case:

2x Pikes Settler's Cottage Shiraz 2019

Red — Shiraz

Clare Valley — Australia

If you were hanging out in South Australia in the 1880’s, you’d know Pikes for their beers. Fast forward 100 years and and several generations and the Pike family has firmly established themselves as one of the premier wine producers in the Clare Valley. Hops and grapevines, a rather abstract take on the tradition family tree. Their Settler’s Cottage shiraz speaks loudly of the Clare style; bracingly fresh, with aromas turned up to full volume and strikingly fine tannins. This is savoury, sumptuous superb shiraz.

You’d pay $40 full price.

2x Irvine Spring Hill Shiraz 2021

Red — Shiraz

Barossa — Australia

Irvine are getting to be a favourite of ours, with firmly fruited reds. Their Spring Hill range is ridiculous good value and we’re glad to have gotten our hands on some of the shiraz from the cracking 2021 vintage. Although it’s their “entry level” range, this wine still sees a year in French oak and is already walking and talking Barossa shiraz. Dark cherry, vanilla and cocoa bound from the glass, then comes the full body, laden with fruit and spice.  Chewy tannins add to the structure and the finish is full of puckering plums.

You’d pay $27 full price.

2x Schild Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2020

Red — Cabernet Sauvignon

Barossa — Australia

We've said it before and I will say it again: cabernet is Barossa’s little secret weapon; juicy and full-fruited over a muscular armature. It’s no cool climate cabernet with an empty mid-palate, needing merlot or shiraz to fill it. It fills its own midsection. It is its own beast. All the dark berries and blackcurrant of the variety, but reduced down, chocolatey and licoricey too. Fresh, structured, fleshy, punchy. So tasty.

You’d pay $30 full price.

2x Farmer's Leap Pillar Box Red 2021

Red — Shiraz Blend

Padthaway — Australia

Wow - this is a knockout. At the price this wine commands, you literally could not find anything better. We try a lot of wines here, and to say that this one was instantly outstanding is barely touching on how impressed we were. Incredible aromatics meet you on the nose, a tribute to the cab sauv that makes up a quarter of the blend. Shiraz shines with a bountiful expression of plum, blackberry and preserved cherries - the good ones that you save for your Sunday roast. Give us an hour to talk about this wine, and we’d do so without skipping a beat.

You’d pay $22 full price.

2x St Johns Road 'The Resilient' Grenache 2020

Red — Grenache

Barossa Valley — Australia

"Very good grenache..." - Carl, Vivino user. As a rule, we don't quote customer reviews. That said, Carl has absolutely hit this one out of the park. This is, indeed, a very good grenache. Bright, ripe, red fruit, that familiar cola flavour you'd expect from grenache and juuuust enough earthiness to remind us that we're all grown ups. Very slick, very silky, very good grenache.

You’d pay $24 full price.

2x Million Suns GSM 2021

Red — GSM

South Australia — Australia

Ken Gargett, for Wine Pilot, described this wine as, "Beautifully rounded and elegantly flavoursome", and we couldn't agree more. Medium-bodied yet full-flavoured, this is a rich, juicy wine with super-fine tannins and a whirlwind of brooding dark fruit and vibrant raspberry-like acidity. There's something for everyone here, versatile and vivacious, you could even chuck this one in the fridge for half an hour on a hot day... thank us later!

You’d pay $20 full price.
