2x Pertaringa 'Belonging to the Hills' Shiraz 2021
Red — Shiraz
McLaren Vale — Australia
The Pertaringa name is no stranger to the Aussie household. The iconic Hardy family are to wine what vegemite is to toast: a perfect match. So, to land this beauty from the hands of Bec Hardy is monumental for us, and we couldn't be more pleased. This is McLaren Shiraz through and through, with densely packed dark chocolate and fresh roasted coffee exploding on the nose. The palate follows through just as true, layered with preserved plums, dark forest berries and a lick of vanillin softness. There's one word for this wine, and it's awesome.

2x Devitt & Moore William Pile Shiraz 2019
Red — Shiraz
Barossa Valley — Australia
We gotta say, when did 2019 start feeling like forever ago? Well, in the eyes of a bottled wine, we’re starting to call that aged. Classic Barossa with a lick of age. For classic Barossa Valley shiraz like this, we often need a little time to chill, and after a long lie-down, this number is coming at us with energy, vibrance, and intensity. Vanilla and blackcurrants galore, with cherry, anise and violets playing their part too. Is that a whiff of pepper, I sense? I think indeed it is. The mark of a good craftsperson, there is certainly nothing to fault here.

2x Hewitson Rowland Flat Shiraz 2021
Red — Shiraz
Barossa Valley — Australia
Rated a 9/10 vintage from the Halliday Wine Companion, 2021 in Barossa provided perfect conditions for high quality and yields. Gee, this producer has been popular with our mofo members by providing solid, true-to-style wines time and again. This is a bold shiraz. Deep, dark and rich. A partial whole bunch fermentation contributes to herbaceous aromatics alongside deep, fleshy blood plums. A good 14 months maturation in oak barrels frames the fruit over the palate with notes of chocolate and an exotic tobacco finish will linger. It’s a smart wine, ready to enjoy now and in ten years given the right cellaring.
You’d pay $50 full price.

2x Reschke Reserve Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2020
Red — Cabernet Sauvignon
Coonawarra — Australia
Smooth and rich Coonawarra cab? Say no more. We’re not going to talk to you like you don’t know what to expect, and instead we’re going to tell you why this wine is the next best thing. There’s everything you crave in the style: cocoa, minty, eucalypt mingling with blackcurrants aplenty. What’s that? Oh, in comes a smattering of smokey spice, a dollop of dark jammy fruits, and an emerging earthy tone that sets everything in its place.
You’d pay $55 full price.

2x Pirramimma Heritage GSM 2020
Red — GSM
McLaren Vale — Australia
When it comes to quality and consistency, Pirramimma is solid as a rock. They’ve been at it for almost 130 years, so it’s to be expected. This GSM is beautifully balanced, hitting all the right notes in terms of fruit, oak and tannin. The nose exhibits blackberry, plum and toffee, along with hints of pomegranate and cedar. On the palate there’s raspberry, more plum, cranberry and vanillin. We suspect this one will move faster than you can say GSM.
You’d pay $50 full price.

Tasting Notes
2x Schild Estate Shiraz 2020
Red — Shiraz
Barossa Valley — Australia
Whenever you're looking to decipher the quality of a winery, go straight for the middle-tier wines. That's how you separate the good producers from the exceptional ones: by the calibre and attention they pay at every level. It's a great thing to look at the wines of Schild Estate, and this 'Estate' shiraz is full of that greatness. Brimming with chocolate and boysenberry richness, coupled with plenty of black pepper and clove spice. This is shiraz, stripped back, unfussy, pure and simple. What a delight.
You’d pay $30 full price.
