2x Bethany Wines JGS Shiraz 2022

Red — Shiraz

Barossa Valley — Australia

When I first tried this shiraz, it was like love at first sight (or, sip). Juicy and fragrant, but powerfully integrated with a spicy, smoky oak profile. The 'JGS', named after Johann Gottlob Schrapel who arrived to the Barossa in 1844 by Ox cart and established Barossa's first settlement in Bethany. This wine is an ode to that history, and the first vineyards Johann planted in 1852. Today, the Schrapel family continue to own and operate Bethany Wines, with an impeccable eye for quality and storytelling. This shiraz outperforms most by a mile- a testament to the history of this family and their understanding of true Barossa character.

2x Rosenvale Vineyards Vine Vale Road Shiraz 2021

Red — Shiraz

Barossa — Australia

This is serious shiraz, mofo. Coming from one of our favourite Barossa producers who were established well over 100 years ago! As for this particular wine, after the grapes are picked at perfect ripeness to give voluptuous fruit quality, which sees a couple of years in new and seasoned French oak barrels. The resulting wine is dark and deep, with blueberries, spice and a touch of white pepper on the nose. The palate is full of fine tannins and rich red cherries and plums. It’s not just a mofo fave - it’s an all round consumer fave bringing in an impressive 4.1 rating on Vivino; Certainly not something you see every day. Calling all Aussie red lovers, this one should catch your attention!

2x Sieger Estate Frederick BLK 777 Shiraz 2017

Red — Shiraz

Barossa Valley — Australia

From the fertile plains of Barossa’s rich valley floor comes a grape of great fame. It’s illustrious deep colour could mesmerise any punter, and it’s aromas are sure to enchant even those who try to abstain it. It’s the star of the show: shiraz. Taking no prisoners on its mission to be the biggest and the best - there’s chocolate interlaced with stewed plums and a hint of dried figs. A dance of redcurrant across the mid palate dares to drive freshness home for the long, slow burning finish. Both the beauty and the beast in the glass, you’ll be enchanted all the way through.

You’d pay $50 full price.

2x Chateau Yaldara 1847 Church Vineyard Shiraz 2021

Red — Shiraz

Barossa Valley — Australia

A classic shiraz for lovers of bold Barossa, with intense flavour and a generous touch of oak. It’s a wine to sink your teeth into over a Sunday roast or kicking back on the sofa after work with a bit of TV. Sometimes you don’t want a wine that ‘pushes the boundaries’ or is going for ‘young, modern and funky’. This is as dependable as its label and follows a time-honoured recipe for classic full-bodied Australian flavour. There are no curveballs, no crazy surprises, just the fantastic quality and delicious drinking that you’ve been looking for.

2x Lou Miranda Estate Golden Lion Shiraz 2020

Red — Shiraz

Barossa — Australia

Power and other-worldly levels of deliciousness. This is one robust shiraz. In the glass, the colour is a deep crimson red and there’s lifted aromas of plum, pepper, vanilla and dark chocolate. The palate is full and generous with dark fruits, interwoven spice and savoury tannins. With Angela Miranda at the helm of the winemaking, this is one well made wine. There's a good dose of American oak in the ageing regime on this, adding a touch of coconut and further vanilla to the wine. It’s ready to go with a big ole’ steak right now or will happily nap in your cellar for 15 years. This big boy is here for you now and in the future.

You’d pay $50 full price.

2x Schild Estate Shiraz 2020

Red — Shiraz

Barossa Valley — Australia

Whenever you're looking to decipher the quality of a winery, go straight for the middle-tier wines. That's how you separate the good producers from the exceptional ones: by the calibre and attention they pay at every level. It's a great thing to look at the wines of Schild Estate, and this 'Estate' shiraz is full of that greatness. Brimming with chocolate and boysenberry richness, coupled with plenty of black pepper and clove spice. This is shiraz, stripped back, unfussy, pure and simple. What a delight.

You’d pay $30 full price.
