Why do we love this case?
We can't get enough of Aussie shiraz - there's nothing that typifies our wine drinking landscape quite like the big, bold, rustic wines of South Australia. Here we've compiled a few of our favourite Black Market Unwrapped offers for your pleasure!
1x First Drop 'Cold Sweat' Wilton Shiraz 2016
Red — Shiraz
Barossa — Australia
Sometimes wines come along that you could really just get out your knife and fork and dive into. This is a prime example of just that; not for its weight or density, but for its satisfying-to-drink quality that'll have you savouring it a little longer. The swirls of cherry ripe amongst the salty, vegemite-y backbone are something too beautiful to describe. Layer that up with a good dose of leather and tobacco from a good decade in the bottle and we’re on track to doing this wine justice. This is perhaps too good to describe, you’ll just have to try it.
You’d pay $100 full price.

1x Mitolo Cantiniere Shiraz 2018
Red — Shiraz
McLaren Vale — Australia
This 2018 shiraz starts with blueberries and plums on the nose, followed by a pretty perfume. The palate is all McLaren with dense red and black fruit, richness and abundant tannin. It’s as intense, as complex, as high quality, as powerful as you are going to find, with all of that fruit supported by roasted nuts and spices, and super dark chocolate. The mouthfeel is indeed bold, but not overwhelming, as tannin dances with fruit, acidity, earthy notes and a long and moreish finish.
You’d pay $70 full price.

1x Thorn-Clarke Bona Fide Shiraz 2018
Red — Shiraz
Barossa Valley — Australia
Thorne-Clarke: a meeting of two families that settled on Barossa soils over a century ago. Like many, it’s a story of hard work, nose to the ground, generation after generation. Fast forward to the 21st century, and it’s all about their classy wines that stand out from the pack. True to their terroir-driven ethos, the Bona Fide shiraz is all about small scale and a watchful eye. Single vineyard, small batch fermentation, followed by American oak treatment for 18months (40% new). Only the best of the best made it to the final blend, meaning that you, yes YOU Mofo, are only getting the very best.
You’d pay $70 full price.

1x Hewitson Rowland Flat Shiraz 2021
Red — Shiraz
Barossa Valley — Australia
Rated a 9/10 vintage from the Halliday Wine Companion, 2021 in Barossa provided perfect conditions for high quality and yields. Gee, this producer has been popular with our mofo members by providing solid, true-to-style wines time and again. This is a bold shiraz. Deep, dark and rich. A partial whole bunch fermentation contributes to herbaceous aromatics alongside deep, fleshy blood plums. A good 14 months maturation in oak barrels frames the fruit over the palate with notes of chocolate and an exotic tobacco finish will linger. It’s a smart wine, ready to enjoy now and in ten years given the right cellaring.
You’d pay $50 full price.

1x d'Arenberg The Wild Pixie Shiraz 2019
Red — Shiraz
McLaren Vale — Australia
A tried and true Mofo fav. We love this wine for many reasons, but most of all it’s the way it jumps out of the glass. A potent elixir of vibrant red cherries and blue plums. A swirl of raspberry and liquorice. Dusky, earthy savouriness and piney cedar wood chime in late and usher the fruit along. Its one of those wines you’re reluctant to drink because there is so much joy to be had in just smelling it. On the palate herbaceous black currant leaf and herbal tea flank what is a powerful fruit core. Dark berry compote and quince dominate. Fresh and bright acidity (aided, in part, by the splash of roussanne that’s added to the ferment) gather and drive the fruit density through a long, lasting finish. As far as the Wild Pixie is concerned, this is the best incarnation yet.
You’d pay $32 full price.

1x Jim Barry Lodge Hill Shiraz 2021
Red — Shiraz
Clare Valley — Australia
We’re a talkative bunch here at the ‘Fo, especially when we’re perched at the tasting bench tucking in to the good stuff and sharing our thoughts. But as we tried the Lodge Hill Shiraz, an eerie silence swept the room. Some stared out the window in deep contemplation, some with a bowed head and a cheeky grin. We knew this was one for our beloved Mofos from the first sip. It’s classic Clare shiraz, with rich dark fruit coupled with an elegant restraint, aromatic nose and a long finish. Tremendous drinking for you and (if you can bear to share) the family.
You’d pay $28 full price.
