Why do we love this case?
The Lucky Dip Case is back, this time full of aged cabernet goodness!
The first time we did this, we broke the internet. This time we’ve bubble-wrapped the servers because they’re in for another beating.
Every case contains the same five wicked wines, including some of our absolute faves here at the ‘fo. More info on them below, and they’re all good things. All mofo standard - i.e. nothing we haven’t enjoyed ourselves.
Then there’s the added excitement of seeing which one of these world-beater wines you will receive as your sixth.
The sixth wine is the wildcard and could be either one of these:
An iconic Wynns John Riddoch Cabernet Sauvignon 2008 worth $180 (1 in 30 chance)
Wild Game Cellar Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 worth $60 (at a minimum!)
Each box contains one of these epic wines. The odds vary per wine, but each one is a centrepiece wine, worthy of some truly special occasions.
We should say up front: there are no returns on this - click here for case terms and conditions. As it’s a Lucky Dip, it would be unfair to other mofos running in the draw.
The easiest way to guarantee to get a bottle of Wynns is to go out and buy one for yourself. If you, like me, don’t have $180 handy, this is definitely your best (and cheapest) option! Heard enough already? Pop that case in the cart and cross your fingers and toes! Otherwise, read on for a bit more info on all those lovely wines:
The Wild Card Wines
Wild Card Wine #1
Wynns John Riddoch Cabernet Sauvignon 2008
Coonawarra, South Australia
97pts James Halliday | Five Red Star Halliday Rated Producer
There is no denying the incredible pedigree of Wynns - they're a producer of well-earned repute. This is a very special wine, silky, glossy, powerful cabernet that makes you realise why this grape has captivated wine tragics for centuries. Cassis, brambly nettle, cedar, warm earth, habanero and capscium, tobacco (lots of tobacco); this is a wine that defines the cabernet category. No need to rush, though, Halliday gave this a 'drink by' of 2033, so take your time to pick the right moment, Mofo.

Wild Card Wine #2
Wild Game Cellar Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2013
Coonawarra, SA
This is opulent, luscious, deep, brooding, and still exuding freshness and lift. Its velvety on the palate with an intense dark fruit medley of plums, cherries, and blackberries. That fruit profile persists through a lingering finish, balanced by subtle oak and spritely acidity. Ten years has done this wine wonders - mature and balanced but still packing a punch.

1x Reschke RSR Cabernet Sauvignon 2014
Red — Cabernet Sauvignon
Coonawarra — Australia
We’ve now seen two vintages of this ripper deal fly out the door. For those in the know, this wine never disappoints upon pulling the cork. This cellar release may have eight years of development behind it, but give it a taste and you’ll see that it is only starting to touch its prime drinking window. This wine is usually exclusive to the producer’s database, but somehow our charming wine buyers have managed to get some for the site. Each glass of this cabernet is sure to be excellent and intriguing. The once boisterous tannins have now mellowed on the silky palate, and fruit is joined by herbaceous and somewhat meaty notes. There’s still classic cabernet cassis and blackberry, which is accompanied by rosemary, thyme and a long and savoury finish. Be quick, mofo, ‘cos this wine has been known to fly quick!

1x Devitt & Moore Captain D. Bruce Cabernet Sauvignon 2014
Red — Cabernet Sauvignon
Coonawarra — Australia
Rarely do you open wine when it’s in the perfect drinking window, but alas, we have one for you. With almost a decade in the bottle, its tannins have softened to perfection. Robust and vibrant dark berries are still at the core, but the layers are opening up, offering roasted notes, cigar box, olive tapenade and mineral warmth. Cabernet sauvignon with perfectly aged, fine tannins is genuinely such a pleasure; it makes you wonder why we don’t always wait (nearly) ten years.

1x Flints of Coonawarra Gamons Crossing Cabernet Sauvignon 2017
Red — Cabernet Sauvignon
Coonawarra — Australia
Flints of Coonawarra are a pretty small winery, in a very small region. The Flint family have worked the vineyards of Coonawarra for six generations, and their wines speak to the quality fruit they produce. In fact, the same vineyard that produces this cabernet has historically gone into St Henri cabernet, so you know this is really top tier stuff. Bursting with classic Coonawarra notes of menthol, blackcurrant and eucalypt, you’ll want to return to glass after glass of this beauty.

1x School House 'Cellar Release' Cabernet Sauvignon 2013
Red — Cabernet Sauvignon
Coonawarra — Australia
We all know that fine Coonawarra cabernet ages extremely well. Like George Clooney or Brad Pitt well. We’ve had the 2010 from this producer, and now they’ve offered us the 2013 we did not hesitate to take the opportunity. This is one of our go-to Coonawarra producers, so getting the wine should really be a no-brainer. It’s still plenty powerful, but age has softened the edges a touch to give it a bit more gravitas. Blackberry and mulberry, roasted nuts and black olive, all in perfect harmony. This is great stuff that will prove to be worthy of the A-list for years to come.
You’d pay $80 full price.

1x Geoff Merrill Pimpala Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon 2015
Red — Cabernet Sauvignon
McLaren Vale — Australia
Full of oomph and bravado, this strapping vintage Cab is not for the faint of heart. Those who know Geoff Merrill's wines know that they pack a proper punch. Packed with succulent, ripe berry fruits, charry and vanillin oak and leather – this is not one to pull the bat away from big, bold flavours. Marked by a toasty oak profile, there's a whack of tobacco, clove and freshly roasted coffee perfuming the nose and palate. This is quite the wine to impress.
You’d pay $55 full price.
