Why do we love this case?
The wines that turned even the haughtiest of critics into star-struck fanpeople who mysteriously ‘forget to spit it out’ during a high-brow tasting panel. The concept behind this pack is pretty simple; there’s only one condition to entry - a 95 point or higher award. The vast majority need not apply. We already separate the wheat from the chaff here at the ‘fo. This is the artisan stonebaked masterwork that results.
2x Reschke Reserve Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2020
Red — Cabernet Sauvignon
Coonawarra — Australia
Smooth and rich Coonawarra cab? Say no more. We’re not going to talk to you like you don’t know what to expect, and instead we’re going to tell you why this wine is the next best thing. There’s everything you crave in the style: cocoa, minty, eucalypt mingling with blackcurrants aplenty. What’s that? Oh, in comes a smattering of smokey spice, a dollop of dark jammy fruits, and an emerging earthy tone that sets everything in its place.

2x Lindsay Wine Estate Turrung Shiraz 2021
Red — Shiraz
Barossa Valley — Australia
There won’t be a moment, a single drop, even a whiff of this wine that you’ll regret. In fact, if you’re anything like us, you’ll probably fall pretty quickly in love with it, and with the producer too. Amongst the Barossa giants, this humble winery is all about quality - and they deliver it in spades. Superbly silky plums and blackberries mingle with a tingling of oak - French and American - complimenting all the nuance of the premium fruit that swirls in the glass. This is a symphony you don’t want to miss.

2x Henry's Drive Shiraz/Grenache/Mourvedre 2020
Red — GSM
McLaren Vale — Australia
Immediately nutty, chocolaty aromatics rise from the glass - you can almost feel the warmth and fullness. Plump, plush and uber-friendly; this is an easy-going approachable red blend through and through. The cocoa nib profile continues through the palate, as well as ripe red fruit and a bit of cigar box. More than any other wine, blends need to nail balance. This hits that brief brilliantly with notable contributions form all varietals - truly a wine that beats the sum of its parts.

2x Ulithorne Familia Shiraz 2021
Red — Shiraz
McLaren Vale — Australia
McLaren Vale shiraz, yes, but lithe and vibrant. A more medium-bodied feel leaves room for the lively fruit flavours to sing, unshackled from big, beefy, old-school styles. Classic brambly goodness skates on a fresh sheet of acidity, with just enough grippy tannin to keep it grounded. Miraculously food-friendly, there’s all the ingredients here for an infamous dinner party red. The kind you and your mates are liable to enjoy a wee bit too much of an evening.
Three previous vintages of this wine garnered an applause-worthy 95 points from Mr. Halliday himself. We got in quick with the release of this vintage, but expect similar accolades to be awarded soon enough.
You’d pay $40 full price.

2x Watkins Grenache 2022
Red — Grenache
Langhorne Creek — Australia
Watkins might be a new name to some, but their contributions to the wine industry have pre-dated many. In fact, they’ve been making the wines for many big name South Australian wineries for decades. This family brand shows skill in making exceptional value wines that hit the bullseye every time. Uncomplicated, fun, and made with love. This grenache has cleaned up with reviewers for its juicy currant and raspberry core, with some herbaceous, fine tannins supporting its strong integrity. You may struggle to stop at just one glass.
You’d pay $24 full price.

2x Farmer's Leap Pillar Box Red 2021
Red — Shiraz Blend
Padthaway — Australia
Wow - this is a knockout. At the price this wine commands, you literally could not find anything better. We try a lot of wines here, and to say that this one was instantly outstanding is barely touching on how impressed we were. Incredible aromatics meet you on the nose, a tribute to the cab sauv that makes up a quarter of the blend. Shiraz shines with a bountiful expression of plum, blackberry and preserved cherries - the good ones that you save for your Sunday roast. Give us an hour to talk about this wine, and we’d do so without skipping a beat.
