1x Jim Brand Wines The Pursuit Cabernet Sauvignon 2021
Red — Cabernet Sauvignon
Coonawarra — Australia
When we have this producer at the tasting bench, you can be sure there's a few of us salivating over the wines. This cabernet is always an absolute standout, and we all nod in agreement that this has to be one of the best value cabernets we've ever sold. Ever. An extroverted red which refuses to back down, this wine is fragrant with dark forest fruits seducing the nose, while traces of mint and cedar oak add a twist of regional character. A torrent of ripe plum, dark berry and blackcurrant make their presence known on the palate - clearly dominating but steering clear of overwhelming the tastebuds. The finish is superb with great length and a dry finale. An outstanding example of how to balance power with restraint, and succeed - this magnificent cab shows others how it’s done.

1x Leconfield 'Manor House' Cabernet Sauvignon 2021
Red — Cabernet Sauvignon
Coonawarra — Australia
Silky tannins, impressive length and seriously phenomenal flavour set this Coonawarra cab sauv apart from the pack. Add in some notes of chocolate, blackberries, aniseed, mint, ripe plums and spices and you've got a rare drop that drinks so beautifully you won't want to share it. Wine Pilot's Ray Jordan sang its praises and called it a sumptuous and poised vino from a very good cab sauv year before handing over 95pts. And we whole-heartedly agree. With impressive cellaring potential of a couple of decades this is a wine and deal that's not to be missed.

1x Reschke RSR Cabernet Sauvignon 2015
Red — Cabernet Sauvignon
Coonawarra — Australia
We’ve now seen many a ripper vintage of this baby. It’s one deal that flies out the door and into your kitchen. For those in the know, you're never disappointed once you pull the cork. A cellar release with a lucky 8 years of evolution - give it a burl, and you’ll see that it is only starting to touch its prime drinking window. Usually exclusive to the wine producer’s database, this trickles out to us only when we are lucky, somehow our charming wine buyers have managed to get on that lucky list.
Boisterous tannins that have mellowed to a brooding, silky palate, with chunky fruit joined by herbaceous and somewhat meaty notes. There’s still classic cabernet cassis and blackberry, which is accompanied by rosemary, thyme and a long and savoury finish. Be quick, mofo - you too should be so lucky!
You’d pay $75 full price.

1x Hollick Old Vines Cabernet Sauvignon 2019
Red — Cabernet Sauvignon
Coonawarra — Australia
When it comes to cabernet, we’re happy to drop some buzzwords - Coonawarra, old vine, terra rossa, French oak. Coonawarra is arguably Australia’s greatest cabernet region. Old vines make for concentrated flavours from lower yields. Terra rossa refers to the red soil of Coonawarra that gives its wines their distinct dusty, earthy characteristic. French oak provides that perfect cedary backbone that holds together the fruit profile of cab sav so well. So expect blackcurrant, plum, spice and chocolate on the palate carried forth into an elegant finish with fine lingering tannins. We might have gone a bit heavy on the buzzwords here, but they exist for a reason.

1x Mandala 'The Butterfly' Cabernet Sauvignon 2019
Red — Cabernet Sauvignon
Yarra Valley — Australia
It is a real joy when tasting to come across wines with added levels of nuance and sophistication. All the fruit and winemaking prowess is on show here but the true hallmark of this wine is the 35+ year old vines, which add complexity, depth and detail to the fruit which, when compared to a wine from vines that are much younger would simply be missing all those finer details. Older vines are heralded for producing higher quality wines, picture the vine as a wise, old sage that, through experience and practice from the same inputs can now produce wines with more layers and details. Those wise, old vines know what's up in the Yarra.
