Margaret River rarely has a challenging vintage but the 2013 stands among the best of the last 15 years. Beautifully balanced, wonderfully vibrant and patiently matured, this is a really special drop. Both the bouquet and the palate are chocka-block-full of cassis, blackberry, bay leaf and countless other herbs. Fine-grained tannins and a vibrant acidic structure close out proceedings and push through for a lingering finish with discernible hints of sweet oak. A classy wine with a beautiful mouthfeel and exemplary fruit concentration. You won't be disappointed.

Not only does this beauty stand out amongst its direct contemporaries, Gold - Hunter Valley Wine Show, Gold - NSW Wine Awards, but also in the scheme of the wider Australian wine industry, 95pts - Halliday Wine Companion. Beautifully ripe red and dark fruits, think dark cherry, raspberry and blackberry, are enhanced, but not overpowered, by subtle vanilla and hints of spice born of a stint aging in French oak barrels. Initially approachable but with a serious core that bodes very well for future enjoyment, if that's your thing. Produced the oldest wine brand in Australia, dating back nearly 200 years, it's no wonder they've got it all figured out by now.

The 2017 vintage had its challenges, but this wine and this producer bucked the trend entirely. This is a masterfully crafted, elegant-yet-powerful (thanks to that slightly higher ABV), age worthy Cab. We can't get enough of it (literally, we bought everything we could get our hands on and it won't be enough). Varietal in all the right ways; long, herbed, a touch twiggy, a lot brambly. Where it steps outside the mould a little, though, is in the density of the fruit. It borrows somewhat from the powerful fruit profiles of Coonawarra, but it doesn't shed its Margaret River finesse in doing so.

Nothing get us wine lovers more excited than old vines — the beautiful, wrinkled trunks growing thick and heavy on themselves, the roots burrowing deep into the soils and the wines, the resulting wines, adding layers of complexity and depth not found from younger vines. At over 110 years of age, you can picture how stunning these old vines are and the resulting wine speaks for itself. Crafted from a vintage that will drink well young but also reward extended cellaring, allowing itself to reveal all of its potential and nuances. The perfect wine for a special occasion or dinner, or better yet, a treat for yourself.

This is in beautiful nick. A little bit of cellar time has allowed the complexity of the wine to come to the fore. A mix of fresh berries, leather, spice and cedar lead out. The core of the wine is densely laden with briary fruits - rich and powerful throughout. This is balanced, harmonious and, above all, long. The finish goes on seemingly forever. An outstanding wine through and through.
