What to B to your next BYO
So, you’ve been invited out to a mate's place for a drinks and dinner thing. Look at you, you social butterfly.
Bravo. But what do you take when you have no idea what’s going to be on the menu? We believe that wine is made to be enjoyed by people, not just to impress food. So it makes sense to match your wine with the kind of person you’re catching up with.
Genius, right? Here we go:
The Scholar
These peeps can geek out about wine with the best of them, so blow their mind with a San Polino Rosso di Montalcino Sangiovese 2018. Casually drop that it’s from a tiny, organic Tuscan producer and watch them froth over it for the rest of the night.
The Friyay Glugger
Anything you bring will be there for a good time not a long time, so you don’t want to push the boat out. Giusti Rosalia Prosecco DOC NV is your hands down winner. It’s fun, light, fruity and fizzy, and will literally start your sesh off with a bang (pop).
The Chakra
Their body is either a temple or so affected by allergies your offering must be purer than driven snow. Enter the David & Nadia Aristargos White Blend 2019. It’s achingly organic, with more than enough going on structurally and palate-wise to distract your host from reminding you how vegan they are.
The Hoity Toity
Sure, they’re precious - but you still love them enough to splash out on a Kutch Bohan Vineyard Pinot Noir 2017. Of course you remembered they only drink pinot. And, of course, their cousin met Jamie Kutch at a soiree in Napa last year. It’s such a small world.
The Insta Addict
Château La Clapière Cru Classé Rosé 2019. Hands down. They’ll love it for having one of the all-time Insta-worthy bottles. But you’ll love it for its gentle aromas of tropical fruit, sage and Mediterranean minerality - especially while quietly chuckling to yourself as they attempt to tap out its name with the correct accents. #roséallday, amirite?
The Training Wheels
If you’re catching up with a novice or beginner, you’ll want something accessible that still gives you something to talk about. This Savian Pinot Grigio 2019 fits that bill perfectly. Subtle flowers on the nose and the first sip should remind them of a bite into a firm pear. Who says education can’t be fun?
There you have it. Can you think of any other wines that match well with personality types? We wanted to put a stack more in, but the head honcho said ‘no’.
She can be such a sauvignon blanc.
